How to Prepare Peppermint Tea Properly

What you’ll need: fresh or dry peppermint leaves, a paper towel, a cup or teapot, a teaspoon and a strainer (optional).

To enjoy the full benefits and delightful taste of peppermint tea, follow these simple steps to prepare it properly:

1. Gather your ingredients: To make a perfect cup of peppermint tea, you'll need fresh or dried peppermint leaves and hot water. Fresh leaves will give you a more vibrant flavour, while dried leaves are more intense and convenient to store.

2. Wash the leaves: If you're using fresh mint leaves, be sure to wash them first to remove any dirt or pesticides. Gently pat the leaves dry with a clean towel or paper towel.

3. Crush, bruise or tear the leaves (optional): For a stronger flavour and to release more of the essential oils from fresh peppermint leaves, you can gently crush or tear the leaves before brewing.

4. Measure out the leaves: For each cup of tea, use 1 heaping teaspoon of dried peppermint leaves or 2 heaping teaspoons of fresh mint leaves. Adjust the amount per your taste preferences.

5. Heat the water: Boil water in a kettle or saucepan until it reaches a temperature of approximately 93°C (200°F). Avoid using boiling water, as this may over-extract the flavours and make the tea taste bitter.

6. Add leaves to the cup: Place the measured peppermint leaves into your teacup or a teapot with an infuser.

7. Pour the water: Slowly pour the hot water over the leaves in the cup or into the teapot.

8. Steep the tea: Allow the tea to steep for 5-7 minutes. The longer you steep the tea, the stronger its flavour will be. However, avoid steeping it for too long, as this could result in a bitter taste.

9. Strain the tea: If you've used loose leaves and brewed them directly in the cup, use a tea strainer to separate the leaves from the liquid. If you've used a teapot with an infuser, simply remove the infuser.

10. Enjoy: Your freshly brewed peppermint tea is now ready to enjoy. You can drink it hot or let it cool down and add ice for a refreshing iced peppermint tea. Optionally, you can also add honey, lemon, or other natural sweeteners to enhance its flavour further.

Remember, it's essential to use high-quality peppermint leaves and fresh, clean water to prepare a delectable and aromatic cup of peppermint tea properly.
